5 Ways to Increase
Your Reiki Flow

Why your Reiki flow may be less
right after certification,
AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT:

The single most important skill for a Reiki Practitioner to learn is how to BE a clear channel, to allow the Reiki to flow.

“Being a clear channel” involves:

• Being completely present;
• Removing/managing your own distractions; and
• Letting go of your own desires.

You might think about yourself as a conduit.
As water doesn’t flow as freely through a clogged pipe, so it is with Reiki.

The best way to become a clear channel is to bring your attention to HOW you might be getting in the way of the healing energy flowing through you.
1.  Overthinking the process.
Newly attuned, you may be thinking a lot about how you are doing Reiki - which symbols or hand positions to use, when you should change positions, etc.  This analytical thought is the opposite of being a clear channel.  While it’s important to master the art of working with others, be conscious of your left brain taking over.

Practice following your intuition as a way to increase the flow of Reiki energy.

 2.  Trying to force or over-direct the energy.
Healing is a very creative process, unique to each individual. As practitioners, we can only offer Reiki; we must not force change, even when we have a great desire to assist. Forcing or over-directing hinders the flow of energy and ultimately lessens the quality and power of your work.

Trust that Reiki and the client’s own energetic wisdom will do exactly what is right for the client…and feel the flow of energy increase.

3.  Allowing your ego to get in the way.
Our Ego is an important aspect of being human; we rely on this part of ourselves for many successes in our daily lives. Yet, as a Reiki Practitioner, your Ego can definitely can get in the way.  For example, if you have a great (even loving) desire for a client to ‘heal’ or change in a certain way, this comes from your Ego. Your attachment to an outcome…also your Ego.

Be reminded that these caring thoughts are YOUR wishes. To be a successful practitioner, you must ultimately have no expectations. It’s not that we cannot HAVE all of these human, compassionate thoughts.  But, be sure that you don’t bring them into the treatment. You might say a prayer or express intentions before the treatment.

Practice a state of neutrality for increased energy flow.
Be gentle with yourself as you cultivate a state of being a ‘clear channel’ in this way. When we practice Reiki, we are in a state of deep love; our human minds, conditioned to our cultural frameworks of love, often associate this state with Ego-oriented desires.

4.  Bringing your own energetic clutter to the session.
Before you even begin a session with someone, consider checking your energy body. I find it helpful to actually visualize myself as a physical channel, or tube, of energy before a session. I ask to be shown the state of my channel.

Energetic densities, emotions, and thought patterns will present themselves in the most peculiar ways – colors, feelings, and inner knowings. You may be surprised at what shows up!

You might be able to see or sense any of the following:
•Frustration from your day.
•Anger at a partner.
•Worry about money.
•An emotion from the previous day.
•Thoughts about your client.
•Self-criticism for being rushed before the session.

All these types of energies can linger, and also ‘get in the way’.
When you become aware of these impediments, you then have the opportunity to remove or release them. One simple technique is to physically rake away the energy with your Reiki-charged hands.  Before you begin working with someone, take a few minutes to scan your energy body.  Ask to be shown visuals; the more you can give the energy form, the better you will be able to release them.

Clear your own energy to clear the pathway for Reiki.

5.  Picking the Most Difficult People for Your First Sessions
New to Reiki, you are likely asking family members or friends if you can practice on them.  You came home from class raving about the potency of Reiki.  You place your hands in the first position…and you don’t feel it.  (You might even experience some performance anxiety. “I really want to show my husband/best friend how amazing Reiki is!”)
You can barely sense the Reiki flowing…because you’ve chosen the most challenging clients!  It can sometimes be more difficult to enter a flow state with people that you know intimately.  Your emotional connections, desires and past history can also get in the way of your pure intuitive, neutral state.

Find practice clients that you don’t know as intimately - a neighbor or friends of friends.

Of course, sessions with your loved ones can be amazing too. But, these are the most common reasons a freshly certified person might experience a lack of Reiki flow. Take these reasons into consideration.

Most importantly, just keep practicing!
